DIRE STATE - Voice of the People through Images by Jacob Sammut.
The News Hound prides itself on helping writers, authors and other creative individuals to have a voice and to spread their own particular message, more often than not, by using words. But in the case of Jacob Sammut, through the powerful and evocative photography in his innovative publication, “Dire State - Voice of the people through Images”, Jacob brilliantly captures the sense of anger and frustration, that is bubbling under the surface of the otherwise picturesque and tranquil Mediterranean island of Malta.
Shot in the first weeks of angry demonstrations in the capital Valletta, which followed the brutal murder of Malta’s most prominent journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. She was delving into the corrupt wasp nest of the Maltese Mafia and its potential links with the Maltese Government.
The investigation as to who was responsible for her murder, was hampered and slowed down by months of false leads and tip off’s to potential suspects, by the members of the Maltese government itself. This caused an uprising where the public stood shoulder to shoulder, to show their feelings of betrayal by the government.
Jacob decided to use our Compact Tabloid format to document this historic event, where we hope the excellent picture quality did justice to his images and to his important message.
